SUMMARY:Quixote Nuevo
DESCRIPTION:by Octavio Solis\ndirected by Lisa Portes\nSept. 30- Oct. 28\, 2023 \nFrom one of the storytellers behind the film Coco comes a modern take on Don Quixote bursting with imagination and Tejano music. The valiant knight—a.k.a. Jose Quijano—sets out to find his long-lost love.  But nothing is as it seems\, he gets lost in his fantasies and the community wrestles with his dangerous reality.  This fast-paced\, bilingual fable about the joys and perils of being the hero of your own story was proclaimed “revelatory” by the San Francisco Chronicle.  SCR is thrilled to welcome back Herbert Siguenza of Culture Clash to play Jose Quijano.

SUMMARY:Queen of the Rumba
DESCRIPTION:Inspired by a true story – Alicia Parla – a 21 year old virgin Cuban girl set the world on fire with the Rumba back in the 1920s. This story begins when Alicia\, now a mature woman of 89\, is diagnosed with cancer and she refuses to stay in the cancer ward because she claims she is ready to go\, because she had a happy and full life. The doctor insists she stay overnight for observation. At night she hears a young girl crying because she too has a terminal illness with just a few months to live. She tries to cheer her up by sharing her story of how she went from a precocious girl who came to the US from Cuba and ended up introducing the US to the Rumba and had an amazing dance career that took her to Paris and many other exciting places. She teaches her that when you live in the moment\, and that’s what she did when she danced\, that you can live forever. In sharing her story she reveals her one true regret – not following her heart and not going with the man she loved because he was poor and a black Cuban. She had to marry well in order for her white Cuban family to accept her. The young girl realizes that although she is going to die she can do it peacefully now because she will not die with regret because she knew how to love. She asks Alicia to teach her how to dance the Rumba and she gets everyone in the cancer ward to dance the Rumba as though their life depended on it. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWritten by Josefina López \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDirected by Corky Dominguez \n\n\nDate:\n\n\n\n\n\nSeptember 22 – October 22\, 2023 (Previews Sept 20 & 21 @ 8PM)\n\n\n\n\n\nTime:\n\n\n\n\n\nFridays/Saturdays @ 8PM & Sundays @ 3PM

SUMMARY:The Travelers
DESCRIPTION:THE TRAVELERS\nby Luis Alfaro\nDirected by Catherine Castellanos\nrestaged for LTC by Sean San José\nProduced in association with The Magic Theatre with home resident company- Campo Santo \nSet inside a nearly abandoned Catholic monastery\, a small group of Brothers world is exploded with the sudden arrival of a man shot through the heart. The Travelers explores a disconnected community of Brown men in search of connection and corazon with intimate honesty and inspired humor. These travelers are emblematic of the communities of California’s Central Valley as they seek some soul connection in a state that is building prisons over schools and forgoing any sense of faith over fear-mongering. In the original voice of the Latinx/Latiné world\, Alfaro’s writing breaks through religious dogma\, recognizes cultural connections\, and offers solace for communal souls. \nWorld Premiere Production\nProduced by the Magic Theatre\nand Developed with Campo Santo\nSan Francisco\, California \nThe Travelers is produced by special arrangement with\nTHE GERSH AGENCY\, 41 Madison Ave\, 29th Floor\, New York\, NY 10010
