SUMMARY:A Girl Grows Wings
DESCRIPTION:by Marisela Treviño Orta\nDirected by Rocío Carrillo\nDeveloped and devised by Organización Secreta Teatro\n  \nFeaturing: Mercedes Olea\, Beatriz Cabrera Tavares\, Ernesto Lecuona\, Alejandro Joan Camarena\, Jonathan Ramos\, Stefanie Izquierdo\, Brisei Pérez Guerrero\, and Paula Bucio\nThe daughter of undocumented immigrants who fled violence in their home country\, Alma’s parents cross the border when she is just an infant. At the age of 18\, Alma begins to navigate the world of possibility in the only country she’s ever called home. However\, learning of her undocumented status presents new challenges and betrayals. Alma goes on a journey to reconnect with her fractured cultural identity and her familial roots. Triumphing over adversity\, she grows her wings in a touchingly beautiful and imaginative style. \nDedicated to Natalia Moreleón\, Maria del Carmen Farías\, Luisbayardo Fuentes\, and Bruno Cabrera Ramos. \nIn memoriam. \n“Tlazoltéotl told me\, come… It’s time…Come\, I’ll touch you with my cotton touch\, my cloud touch\, in order to touch Alma’s heart\, a little girl full of dreams without fear before us\, all black and yellow and with a goblin mouth of dark drooling laughter. Sing to the girl so that she doesn’t get scared\, so that she understands the direction of destiny and fights from the heart. Leave her marked with our warm\, black hand\, war paint. Dance with her\, so that her waters calm down\, so that the little fire that the girl has in the center of her heart rekindles\, so that she gets lost there and comes out clean. The girl needs black fire to get lost deep down and be reborn.” – Beatriz Cabrera Tavares \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDATES & TIMES\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThursday\, October 10 at 8:00 PM – PREVIEW\nFriday\, October 11 at 8:00 PM – PREVIEW\nSaturday\, October 12 at 8:00 PM – OPENING NIGHT\nSunday\, October 13 at 4:00 PM\nThursday\, October 17 at 8:00 PM\nFriday\, October 18 at 8:00 PM\nSaturday\, October 19 at 8:00 PM\nSunday\, October 20 at 4:00 PM \nENCUENTRO 2024\nThursday\, October 24 at 8:00 PM – ENCUENTRO OPENING NIGHT\nSaturday\, October 26 at 2:00 PM\nSaturday\, November 2 at 8:00 PM\nSunday\, November 3 at 2:00 PM\nSaturday\, November 9 at 8:00 PM\nSunday\, November 10 at 4:00 PM \n\n\n\n\n\nTICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPOST-SHOW DISCUSSIONS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCredits\nWritten by\nMarisela Treviño Orta\nDirected by\nRocío Carrillo\nDeveloped and devised by\nOrganización Secreta Teatro\nProduction Coordinators in Mexico\nRocío Carrillo and Erika Gómez\nProduction Assistance by\nViridiana Velasco and María Adriana Lara\nLighting Design\nRocío Carrillo\nSet and Costume Design\nErika Gómez\nMask and headdress Design\nArturo Vega\nAssistant Director\nNathalia Fuentes\nMusical Composition\nJosé Luis Esquivel\nAssistant Composer\nLuis Ochoa\nSound Design\nErick López Rodriguez\nComposition and vocal direction of the song “Tonantzin”\nAlejandro Joan Camarena\nSopranos\nJosebeth Aguirre\, Giselle Solano and Fernanda Verdier\nTenors\nPedro Martinez and Edgar de la Garza\nBasses and Baritones\nJosué Zarco Becerril\, Virgo Somár\, Jadhir García and Alejandro Joan Camarena\n  \nPercussion\nPaula Bucio\n“Zopilote” Musical Arrangements\nPaula Bucio\nVideoart\nMiriam Romero\nTraining and staging of the Mictecacíhuatl dance and the dance of the gods\nBrisei Pérez Guerrero\n“Ilegal” Text\nStefanie Izquierdo\nPR and Publicity\nAngélica Ruiz / Caracol Difusión en Medios\nInternet Discussion\nLiliana Galicia \nVideo recording\nLuisba Fuentes\nCostume Production\nErika Gómez\, Viridiana Velasco\, Vianey Martínez\, Estefanía Villamar\,  Michelle Vallejo\, Graciela Bejarano\, América Diaz y Tomasa Rivera\nMask and Headdress Production\nArturo Vega and Erika Gómez\nProps\nArturo Vega\, Erika Gómez\, Carmen Ceja and Estefania Villamar\nFolding structures and textile sublimation\nEntorno Creativo

SUMMARY:The Barber of Seville
DESCRIPTION:Composed by Gioachino Rossini \nConducted by Louis Lohraseb \nFigaro! Figaro! Figaro! He’s back and funnier than ever. \nThe dashing Count Almaviva is ready to sweep Rosina off her feet and make her his countess—but not if her greedy guardian Doctor Bartolo has anything to say about it. Enter Figaro: barber\, valet and the man with a plan to wreak joyful havoc and let true love bloom. \nInternationally acclaimed mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard returns to star as Rosina along with baritone Joshua Hopkins as the street-smart matchmaker Figaro. Rossini’s beloved score (filled with delightful earworms) is conducted by Louis Lohraseb\, fresh from his triumphant Tosca in 2022. Best of all\, experience this colorful comedy in a new-to-Los Angeles production by Tony- and Emmy-winning director and choreographer Rob Ashford. This is one appointment with a barber you don’t want to miss.

SUMMARY:Queen of the Rumba
DESCRIPTION:Inspired by a true story – Alicia Parla – a 21 year old virgin Cuban girl set the world on fire with the Rumba back in the 1920s. This story begins when Alicia\, now a mature woman of 89\, is diagnosed with cancer and she refuses to stay in the cancer ward because she claims she is ready to go\, because she had a happy and full life. The doctor insists she stay overnight for observation. At night she hears a young girl crying because she too has a terminal illness with just a few months to live. She tries to cheer her up by sharing her story of how she went from a precocious girl who came to the US from Cuba and ended up introducing the US to the Rumba and had an amazing dance career that took her to Paris and many other exciting places. She teaches her that when you live in the moment\, and that’s what she did when she danced\, that you can live forever. In sharing her story she reveals her one true regret – not following her heart and not going with the man she loved because he was poor and a black Cuban. She had to marry well in order for her white Cuban family to accept her. The young girl realizes that although she is going to die she can do it peacefully now because she will not die with regret because she knew how to love. She asks Alicia to teach her how to dance the Rumba and she gets everyone in the cancer ward to dance the Rumba as though their life depended on it. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWritten by Josefina López \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDirected by Corky Dominguez \n\n\nDate:\n\n\n\n\n\nSeptember 22 – October 22\, 2023 (Previews Sept 20 & 21 @ 8PM)\n\n\n\n\n\nTime:\n\n\n\n\n\nFridays/Saturdays @ 8PM & Sundays @ 3PM
